Travelling with kids isn’t always glamourous. Ask Tammy, the writer behind In R Dream blog, who knows perfectly well all the ins and outs of hitting the road with four children - like being able to fill up a hotel’s entire luggage trolley without even blinking an eye. But, as Tammy has learned through her travels, staying at home is not the answer, especially for families looking to create lasting memories together.
“Now is the time to grab hold of them and step outside of routine, explore, wander and make moments together that make you laugh and reminisce about 10,20 years from now,” she writes.
Packing up the car and heading for Ontario’s Highlands, the family found the perfect itinerary close to home, spanning across the Ottawa Valley, Lanark County and Hastings County.
There were fudge nuggets and adorable bakeries; tours of a maple sugar bush; impromptu games of “Pirate” and pond hockey under the moonlight; opportunities to both ski and swim at the same destination; and - who will ever forget – alpaca selfies?
“Our kids are their happiest when they get the opportunity to wander, explore and learn,” writes Tammy.
