We are so lucky to come from a place that has it all: phenomenal views, rugged landscapes, abundance of trails, and infinite opportunities for recreation, all enticing you to leave your comfort zone and step into the wild. Here, endless forests meet cool, clear lakes and rivers to create incredible vistas that reach out to you with an invitation to come wander.
No matter when we return, we are welcomed back home, ready to rediscover the land, water, and people of #MyHaliburtonHighlands.
To Our Lakes
Here in Haliburton Highlands we know how to play hard but we also know how important it is to counter that with quiet time, and there is nowhere better to do so than here. Sit and bask in the sounds of the lake under the vast skies and feel yourself unwind one molecule at a time. Savour the silence that is Haliburton Highlands.
…thank you for refueling our spirit.
Rediscover Our Retreats: Take a step out of time and immerse yourself in the stillness of the lake at Heather Lodge in Minden. Explore the area around Twelve Mile Lake or Boshkung Lake and breathe deeply in the moment; use Blue Spruce Resort as your home base for your exploration. Venture out on Lake Kashagawigamog and spend the night at Bonnie View Inn so you can do it all again the next day.
To Our Trails
When we step into the wild in Haliburton Highlands you learn what the land can be like when unencumbered by the footprints of man. Here we are invited to explore the vastness of the outdoor spaces through the network of trails that takes us from pristine lake settings to craggy outcroppings with a view. Explore by foot or on a mountain bike and travel to places you’ve never been in a land made for outdoor adventure.
…thank you for feeding our longing for adventure.
Explore Our Forests: Explore more than 400 kilometres of trails in Haliburton Forest & Wildlife Reserve, and end your day with a camping experience under the stars. If you’re quiet enough you might just hear the howl of the wolves and answer back in kind. Explore the region by bike in all four seasons; spring, summer, fall, and yes, even winter.
To Our Rivers
Rivers are mysterious, always moving forever forward, almost magically replenished at their source. In Haliburton Highlands, watch as the Gull River carves its way through the countryside, twisting and turning with the force of the current, shaping the landscape. Relax into the current and see where it takes you.
…thank you for giving us a rush.
Explore Our Rivers: Witness the power of the whitewater rapids at Minden Whitewater Preserve, and take your turn playing in the water, or put in below the rapids and let the river gently guide you downstream. Explore the Preserve’s 100-acres of trails and marvel at the wonder of the topography here. Rent a canoe or kayak from Algonquin Outfitters or Deep Roots Adventure for a complete adventure.
To Our Cliffs
When we stand at the top of an outcropping, our face turned to the sky high above, it’s a reminder of how small we are in the world. Here, hilly terrain creates opportunities for stunning views that will give a fresh perspective of the world and our place in it, inspiring us to strive for greatness.
…thank you for taking us to new heights.
Explore Our Cliffs: Head to Skyline Park overlooking the town of Haliburton and drink in the splendour both above and below. Let that inspiration carry over to your belly and fill up with Hook, Line & Sinker‘s crisp and flaky pickerel, then top it all off with Kawartha Dairy’s rich and creamy ice cream, in nearby Minden.
To Our Makers
It’s true this is a land of forests and lakes, but we also know it as a land that local growers use to cultivate phenomenal food and drink. Now more than ever we rely on their products to fuel us and keep us safe. Free your inhibitions and experience fresh, versatile and local cuisine from a restaurant or café – it will taste all the sweeter because you will know it’s your Haliburton Highlands.
…thank you for exciting our senses.
Explore Our Growers: Abbey Gardens is an example of the commitment small farmers have to growing great things in the community. Created from a 300-acre gravel pit, Abbey Gardens was transformed into a garden space with interpretive trails and a local food marketplace. Savour organic fruits and veggies along with prepared meals grown and made right in Haliburton Highlands. Explore the unique flavours from Haliburton’s two microbreweries, Boshkung Brewing and Haliburton Highlands Brewing.
With love,
From the Wanderer inside all of us XO XO
