They may be long gone, but within my boundaries they live on. I am a celebration of the past and an educator of the future. Where am I?
Watch history come to life before your eyes and discover the rich stories and heritage of those who lived long before us with a visit to this five-acre homestead.
…I am Petawawa Heritage Village.
Located in the heart of Petawawa, the Petawawa Heritage Village celebrates the settlement era and immigrant story of early Canada. Wander the village to discover the pioneer way of life, learn traditional customs, and marvel at the craftsmanship behind original furniture and heirlooms.
Discover the stories and characters of: Frau Leder, who travelled with her husband and eight children from Liverpool, England to the village of Petawawa in 1884; the village Blacksmith, who was considered one of the most essential tradesmen in any pioneer community; and the village Carpenter, who moulded and shaped a variety of household items needed by villagers. Get a glimpse of what it was like to live in the mid 19th century as you explore buildings like the CP Railway Station, Black Bay School, the Stable, a Trapper Cabin, and other pioneer dwellings.
Spend a beautiful day wandering from building to building during the summer months, or visit during a special event in the off season to see Petawawa Heritage Village in a whole new light.
