Killaloe. Birthplace of the Beavertail.

Even if they haven’t had the pleasure of indulging in one yet, it’s safe to wager the average Canadian has at least heard of the iconic BeaverTail treat. For many, this sweet (or sometimes savoury) treat is prone to conjure up memories of summer road trips and ski hill visits. It’s the perfect shareable snack of deep-fried dough – somehow both perfectly crispy and delectably soft – smothered in mouth-watering toppings like maple butter, chocolate hazelnut spread, or the classic cinnamon and sugar dusting. But do you know the origins of this distinctly shaped delight? A sign just outside of Killaloe, Ontario proudly welcomes visitors to the birthplace of the Beavertail and blogger Glenn, from Roadstories.ca, couldn’t resist stopping to share the story of the town and its sweet claim to fame.
