After a long winter of subzero temperatures, we’re looking forward to embracing the warm bounty of spring, and all that comes with it. As we unfold ourselves from the layers of clothing that kept us warm all winter we can begin to take stock of the impact our wintry cocoon has had on our skin, hair, and nails.
This is the time to give ourselves a little love.
In Haliburton Highlands, Wind in the Willows Spa is a full service spa offering everything you need for a full day of indulgence. Spa owner, Sylvia Holland, and her team of professionals are focused on helping clients look and feel their best any time of the year, and offer manicures, pedicures, facials, body treatments, and more.
It’s true that looking and feeling wonderful is so much easier when we have a little help from luxurious products and expert hands at the spa. While we may not be able to get out for a little pampering right now, we can still take a few moments to care for ourselves from the outside in.
Sylvia’s do-it-yourself Brown Sugar Facial and Body Scrub will give you silky smooth skin and makes a perfect gift or for you to make for your own day of pampering at home.
Sylvia’s words of advice? Don’t be intimidated by trying a spa treatment at home. This body scrub doesn’t require a lot of preparation, it just needs a lot of love. Try this treatment at home and be ready for shorts season.
Brown Sugar Facial/Body Scrub
¾ cup Brown sugar
¼ cup Honey
2 tbsp Olive oil
4 drops Essential oil (optional)
Scissors
Medium (two cup) mason jar
Ribbon and pretty paper (old birthday cards, or pretty wrapping paper) (for gifts)
Directions: Mix all ingredients together and pour into a mason jar. Cut a circle from patterned paper and glue to the jar. Add designs cut out from cards if desired to add to the outside of the jar. Tie the ribbon around the neck of the jar. On a slip of paper or gift card, write “Made with love by….”
Directions for use: To use, scoop a small amount of scrub with your fingertips and add a little water to help it move easier over your skin. Apply in a circular motion, avoiding the eye area. Rinse dry thoroughly with eyes closed. Pat dry and apply moisturizer.
