Winter is a great time to disconnect from the daily grind and immerse yourself in nature. This year I chose to enjoy a cozy staycation with my boyfriend at Deacon Escarpment Cabins, Camping and Trails in Golden Lake, where we were able to enjoy quality time together.
Surrounded by the beautiful outdoors, Deacon Escarpment has a few cabins, magnificent trails, and amenities that make it an easy getaway. The owners, Zac and Steph, met us immediately when we pulled in and were both enthusiastic about the slice of paradise they had created. It was incredible how special we felt knowing that they cared about our well being and having them answer our questions without any issues. They even gave us a bonus treat to enjoy during our stay – delicious coffee and a butter tart!
Out of the 3 cabins they offer, we chose the Algonquin Wolf Cabin, located on the top of the escarpment with a magnificent view of Golden Lake. The cabin was inviting and rustic, yet it still had some great modern additions, like a propane fireplace, top of the line BBQ and solar lighting. The queen-sized bunk bed was spacious and comfortable, and everything was already put together for us, so we didn’t have to spend extra time setting up. We also chose the
camping gear package which came with a cooler, frying pan, utensils, dish soap and more. Having these amenities made it easier to enjoy our time at the cabin: we were able to keep warm, sleep comfortably, and easily create our own romantic meal together.
Taking the time to enjoy the perfect winter weather during our escape was a must. Once we were settled in, we took our snowshoes and headed out to explore. The area has lots of open space, and well-designed trails that let us get closer to the view of Golden Lake. The trails are easy to find and run through the entire escarpment. When we were hiking it was the quiet around us that truly made it a magical experience and added to the conversations we had, allowing us to connect to nature and notice how beautiful the trees were. The trails were groomed perfectly for our walk.
When we had worked up a good sweat and started to get hungry, it was time to loop back for dinner. During our everyday lives there is always a rush to eat, so that we can move on to the next event or get ready for work. Our cabin escape made it possible to slow down and eat uninterrupted. It also gave us the ability to really enjoy our time together during an evening filled with a warm bonfire, s’mores, and incredible music by guitar in the perfect weather.
Deacon Escarpment is such an amazing space to unwind, explore and renew. It was quiet and spacious, the hosts went above and beyond, and the cabin was very comfortable. Creating memories and being able to get away really reminded me that there is so much to do in the Valley and I’ve decided that this is a spot we need to make time to visit again to create more memories in a place that is all about the deeper connection – to nature, and to the people you’re with.
